The Manchester-Shortsville CSD (Red Jacket Schools) is seeking candidates for the following position for 2024-2025:

Probationary School Counselor (1.0 FTE)

Job Qualifications

NYS School Counselor Certification required

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated High School Counselor to join our team. The ideal candidate will provide academic, emotional, and social support to students, guiding them in their personal development and helping them navigate the challenges of high school.

 **Objectives of This Role:**

  •  Create a supportive environment for students

  •  Address and manage parent concerns

  •  Balance academic growth with emotional development in student life

  •  Promote a school-wide culture of support and care

  •  Ensure the student body demonstrates maturity and respect

  •  Guide all students towards graduation

**Responsibilities:**

  • Collaborate with administration, counseling staff and department chairs to build the high school schedule

  • Assess student interests and abilities through individual planning

  • Advise students on college and career pathways

  • Facilitate discussions and conflict resolution between students, teachers, and parents

  • Provide counseling and resources to individual students, small groups, and classrooms

  • Organize events to raise student awareness of social issues

  • Report on student well-being to the administration 

  • Provide crisis intervention and support as needed

  • Facilitate workshops on topics such as college readiness, mental health awareness, and conflict resolution

  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of counseling sessions and student progress

**Skills and Qualifications:**

  • Master’s degree in School Counseling or related field
  • New York State Certification as a School Counselor

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse student populations

  • Experience in a school setting preferred

  • Knowledge of college admissions processes and career development resources

**Preferred Qualifications:**

  •  Extensive knowledge of universities and career options

  •  Comfort in leading conflict resolution and crisis management sessions

  •  Collaborative and inspirational mindset

  •  Ability to lead and advise

  •  Understanding of youth psychology

  •  Capacity to assess academic achievement and capabilities

Additional Requirements:

  • Provides for his/her professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced coursework at institutions of higher learning

  • Carries out any other assigned duties and/or responsibilities which may be deemed appropriate by the Superintendent of Schools and the Board of Education 

Job Details:

  • 7.5-hour day, 10-month, plus up to 20 summer work days per RJFA contract

Salary:

  • Per RJFA contract, minimum $45,208, plus education and relevant experience

  • Comprehensive benefits package
